The rise of social commentary in film has been accompanied by a growing number of social issues. While many films focus on the human condition, these issues are also often the subject of political or racial controversy. In the past decade, the majority of best-picture-winning films featured violence and were not necessarily politically conscious. Today, more mature movies use violence to make a point about society and its problems. While critics tend to dismiss social problem films as fictional fantasy, some of these works are based on real-life incidents. In such cases, the underlying meaning of the storyline can be subverted. This has made social commentary films one of the most powerful tools in the toolbox of filmmakers. The rise of social problem films has been a key factor in changing how we view these films. However, the emergence of social commentary films has prompted many filmmakers to question their role in shaping public opinion. While the growth of social problem films is a trend in cinema, the genre isn't necessarily confined to Hollywood. The rise of this genre is present in other media, such as newsprints and advertisements. The rise of social problem films also suggests that the social problem genre is a highly popular one. Nevertheless, it is also growing in popularity. It is important to understand the genre and the context in which it has shaped the film industry. Social problem films are often characterized by the presence of social problems in real-life. These films are called message films because they attempt to make a point about a particular situation. In a way, social problem films are similar to anti-war folk singers in that they are dramatizations of real-life situations. In contrast to traditional movie genres, they can also be described as "socially conscious" or "message" movies.
